Concept:
Adult education, by and for the community.
How:
The ideal is to set it up so that anyone who has something to teach can run a class for as long or as short as they like.
Why:
To ensure we don’t all go soft and soggy in the head form lack of use, increase social interaction, and expand our skills base and confidence.
Pros:
· Could be an additional source of income for those who teach.
· Increased social interaction for everyone.
· Lifestyle courses such as wood carving and belly dancing would be good for the mental and physical health of the community.
· Teaching of courses would improve the confidence and personal wellbeing of the trainers.
· Professional training could also be provided (such as the safe food handling certificate at the start of the tourist season), improving the employment options for the students.
Cons:
· Could be a bit of red tape in getting it up and running.
Cost:
· There would be a cost in the payment of trainers, admin, and course materials. Student fees could cover a lot of these costs, but for those on welfare, some funding may be required to help make it affordable.
Financial benefits:
· Part time employment or pocket money for trainers.
· Improved employability of students.
Social benefits
· Improved social interaction
· Improved skills base.
· Improved mental and physical health of the community
· Improved confidence.
Environmental benefits:
· Improved social environment
· Doesn’t really affect the physical environment for better or for worse.
