My idea for the competition is to offer small 4wd's for hire (maybe 2 or 4 vehicles for a start). The vehicles could be badged as something like "Wild Coast Self Tours". They could possibly be hired out from a location down the main street. The vehicles would be small Suzuki 4wd's or similar and could be run on biodiesel or any other similar alternative fuel source. Someone like Lobs garage could be contracted to recover and fix vehicles as required. Vehicles could come with extras like camping gear, or even basic training if required (and booked ahead). All vehicles would be fitted with an emergency radio. All would be heavily insured (user pays). All vehicles would be fitted with GPS units and the GPS units would have pre determined routes built into them. The user would follow the GPS prompts which would take them on a tour to points of interest, camp sites, lookouts etc. The kit in the vehicles could include local interpretation material and maybe things like a kayak or surf board on the roof rack would be optional extras. The user could opt for a day tour or overnight etc. You would just supply the correct spatial data according to the package that they paid for. Maybe if you wanted you could hire one or all of the vehicles and a local guide.
